Make your own Body Wrap for a Home Spa Day

You can make your own body wrap using a few different items and techniques. Alternatively you can choose to buy one of the kits that are advertised, or just go to a spa and have a professional apply one. Body wraps seem to be everywhere these days.

Do body wraps work? A body wrap really can be the ultimate relaxation technique, as well as pamper treatment for the home spa goddess. Spa body wraps have been used for centuries for many reasons; they are good for cellulite treatment, detox and toning skin, improving circulation, alleviating aches and pains and for treating acne. However, it’s a good idea to remember that results vary for different individuals. While you're trying a body wrap, why not try some other great home spa ideas or create your own home spa kit.

At Home Body wraps 101

While the ultimate in pampering would be to visit a spa and have someone else do everything for you, it’s costly. So if you’re happy to do everything yourself, you’ll get similar results and your bank balance will stay healthy, too. It’s real easy to make your own body wrap, just follow a few easy steps.

Step 1: A cold room is not conducive to a good spa treatment, so warm up your room to enjoy your homemade body wrap. Also, set the mood with some candles, essential oils and soft relaxation music.

Step 2: At home body wraps can be messy, so use some plastic drop sheets and maybe some cling wrap, too. You may also want to have 2 sets of multiple towels- your comfy towels and some towels that you can afford to get messy. Sometimes it’s just as easy to use bandages as a wrap, too.

Step 3: Use a loofah to dry brush your skin, work in small circular motions and then have a warm shower to help open your pores. It’s a good idea to drink lots of water to flush out toxins before, during and after the application of homemade body wraps. Keep water by your side to keep yourself hydrated during the body wrap.

Step 4: For best results, indulge yourself with a body wrap each week for 6 weeks and then follow it with one a month for maintenance. Also, have a good, hot bath a few days after the treatment to release any remaining toxins and avoid caffeine, sugar, fatty foods, soda drinks and alcohol for a few days, too.

Handy Hints: Use a tumble dryer to warm your towels and a microwave oven to warm up any oils before you apply to your skin. Always check the temperature before you do.

Create a Mess-Free Herbal Tea Body Wrap

Ok, you’re now going to make your own body wrap. Fill a bucket or large bowl with hot water (not boiling), then add to it a cup of your favorite herbs (eg. chamomile, lavender, calendula, ginger, roses- you can even use herbal tea bags) and allow the herbs to steep for about five minutes.

Once that’s done it’s time to immerse 2 towels in your water and then wring them out and start to wrap them around yourself. If you’re only beginning you might just like to focus on any problem areas, first (thighs, tummy etc).

Give yourself an hour and replace as needed if the towels and water start to get cold.
