Try homemade skin care products

Homemade skin care products and treatments- like body scrubs- are a great way to keep your skin healthy and beautiful through the simple process of exfoliation. You can buy skin care products anywhere: including ebay, where a search for skin care will take you to the skin care, beauty, health, books and home items section. There you can browse through categories like dermalogica, makeup, foundation, anti aging skin care products and a whole lot more. Big name brands like Ella Bache, Country Road, Estee Lauder and more pop up everywhere, but the prices are pretty high- even on ebay!

My favorite homemade skin care recipe is a simple body scrub. Body scrubs will cost anywhere from $5-$50 from a store or ebay. You might spend closer to $100 if you have a body scrub at a day spa. However, you may have noticed that I prefer homemade spa recipes and, if you make your own body scrub, it could cost almost nothing. Almost nothing is cheap for one of the best anti aging skin care products around.

Most diy beauty body scrubs have these three ingredients:

Ingredient One: Exfoliant

This is an abrasive material like salt, sugar, rice, bran, jojoba beads, apricot kernels, coffee grounds, etc. The abrasive rubs away the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface, revealing softer, younger skin cells below. You’d be amazed how many simple items you can use to make homemade spa recipes from your pantry.

Ingredient Two: Oil

Oil holds the scrub mixture together so it can be applied it skin. More expensive body scrubs usually have more expensive oils like macadamia oil, kukui nut oil and sweet almond oil.

Ingredient Three: Fragrance

Fragrances are very subjective. High-quality essential oils, like the spearmint and rosemary are the best choice, but in the end it is up to you. There’s no rule or guide when creating your own homemade skin care treatments, it just comes down to your own taste.

Body Scrubs at the Spa versus Home spa

There’s no arguing against the savings of Home spa, but many fans of day spas will say you get what you pay for. For example, body scrubs at the spa can be more thorough and leave your skin softer and younger looking because the therapist works longer and gets into areas you can't reach. The therapist might also have special equipment and years of experience that can’t be compared to your own diy beauty skills and equipment.

Body scrubs at the spa are usually combined with an application of lotion and/or a short massage. Many people like to temper the two: having a body scrub at the spa every once in a while, and maintaining their skin care at home with their own homemade skin care treatments.
