Homemade Body Scrub Recipes so you can Create a Spa at Home
There are lots of homemade body scrub recipes that you can create with just sugar and salt: they are great as a home spa party idea. You can create a spa at home by creating not only your own homemade body scrubs, but also your own homemade face masks, homemade body wraps, bath treatments, hair treatments and lots more! This might surprise you, but body scrubs have been used for centuries. It’s even said that Cleopatra's slaves rubbed the queen of Egypt down with granulated honey and myrrh. Body scrubs have changed a little over the years, with recipes using things like grains, nut shells, sea shells, salts and other minerals, but the fundamental idea is still present, to gently scrape away layers of old skin and leave fresh, new skin behind. Don’t Pay Lots of Cash for a Home Spa Party Idea You can do at Home for Free A lot of the time you’re just paying for packaging when you purchase a body scrub. Fact is, most scrubs only contain salt, sugar or nut shells. I guess if you’re time-poor then the money you pay for a scrub could be justified, but part of the fun of home spa is trying to make the beauty treatments we use ourselves. So the choice is yours, if you do decide to do it yourself at home you’ll need a spoon (maybe two), a bowl and not much else.
Try Using Sugar as an Exfoliating Ingredient
If your skin is quite delicate, sugar could be the best option for you to try as an exfoliator. Sugar tends to soften and even dissolve with water, so if you’ve tried nut shells before and found that to be too harsh, try using sugar.
Here’s a simple homemade body scrub recipe using sugar:
2 Cups of raw or brown sugar
½ Cup of avocado
1 Tablespoon of peach kernel oil
A few drops of your favorite essential oil
1 Tablespoon of honey
You can basically use any form of sugar that you like, just make sure that you don’t dissolve the sugar into a thin paste by using too much of the liquid ingredients.
The honey is particularly good if you find that your scrubs dry out your skin, you can adjust the amount you use according to this. Mix everything together slowly and keep the consistency smooth, stop when you can form the mixture in your fingers without it dripping everywhere.
The essential oils are for fragrance, you'll only need a few drops. Essential oils can often cause allergic reactions so test a few drops on your skin the day before you exfoliate. Some oils that are commonly considered skin-friendly include rose, rosemary, lemon, mandarin, lavender and chamomile.

Try Using Salt to Exfoliate your Skin
The next scrub is very similar to the sugar scrub above. Most homemade body scrub recipes are easy to change around, with the main idea to use salt, sugar or nut shell with some oils and fragrances. So, you can vary ingredients to create your own favorite treatments. Instead of essential oils, you could add cocoa or coffee for a chocolate or mocha body scrub!
Salt Scrub Recipe
2 Cups of salt
½ cup of Jojoba oil
¼ Cup of apricot oil
1 Tablespoon of freeze dried coffee crystals
1 Tablespoon of vanilla extract
1 Tablespoon of honey
Homemade body scrub recipes are easy to adjust to your needs. Why not try adding some cucumber extract for a soothing, summery fragrance. With a little bit of practice, you'll soon know how to make practically any scrub you desire. What’s more, if you but some decorative gift jars and labels for your homemade body scrub treatments you can package them as terrific gifts for family and friends so that they can create a spa at home, too.
